BETA receives BSCES 2021 Large Employer Recognition Award

BETA is honored to be the recipient of the Boston Society of Civil Engineers Section’s (BSCES) Large Employer of the Year Award! BSCES established this award to recognize employers who commit to providing exceptional opportunities to their employees. As a long-standing supporter of BSCES, BETA recognizes the importance of the Society’s mission to provide technical programs, events, and initiatives that support and benefit the civil engineering profession. It is also of great importance to us that we encourage our employees to be actively engaged and serve in leadership roles on their local governmental boards, committees, professional organizations, and societies. These activities provide an opportunity to not only advance their interests and professional development, but also support BETA’s mission of Improving Communities TogetherLearn more about this exciting award and our involvement with BSCES here.

International Women in Engineering Day

International Women in Engineering Day is celebrating its eighth year in 2021. Brought to you by the Women’s Engineering Society (WES), INWED is an international awareness campaign which raises the profile of women in engineering and focuses attention on the amazing career opportunities available to women and girls in this exciting industry. We spoke to a few of BETA’s women engineers to see what inspired them to enter the industry.

Melissa Recos, PE

“My dad was in construction management, and I was always interested in what he was working on.

He encouraged me to pursue engineering so that I would have control over the design, rather than just building what someone else came up with. There are also many more paths you can take with an engineering degree.”

– Melissa, BETA Engineer

Katelyn Burke, BETA Engineer

“I’ve always loved water. Growing up, I spent my summers by the lake and after taking an environmental science class in high school, it became a passion.

I knew I wanted to work in the environmental field, improving water quality. My interest in math/science steered me towards engineering.”

– Katelyn, BETA Engineer
