Celebrating Bay State Bike Month

Nantucket, MA bike paths

September is Bay State Bike Month! From Cape Cod to the Berkshires and everywhere in between, riders in the Commonwealth plan and attend events to bring out new cyclists and raise awareness about bicycling for transportation, fitness, and fun. With the recent increase in the amount of bike users, many communities are looking for ways to improve and maintain their current infrastructure.

Nantucket, Massachusetts is one of those communities and is quickly becoming a leader in bike path maintenance and pavement preservation, aiming to sustain its existing bicycle infrastructure to the greatest extent possible.

Our team is working with the Nantucket DPW to conduct a pavement condition assessment of the island’s bike paths. BETA prepared a Pavement Preservation Capital Improvement Plan which included recommendations for maintenance and preservation. This innovative project, treating the bike path network with the same importance as a roadway network, aims to improve safety and save funds by prolonging the paths’ lifespans. Click here to read more!

Fall River Groundbreaking

City Pier, Fall River groundbreaking

It was a proud moment for the City of Fall River, Massachusetts and BETA employees as local dignitaries broke ground on the City Pier Improvement Project on August 25, 2021. Situated on the shore of the Taunton River City Pier is a four-acre site with big potential. For nearly a decade, BETA has been involved in brownfield clean-up activities to help transform the vacant parcel into an accessible site which could be used for marina, recreation, dining, and waterfront amenities.

Millie Garcia-Serrano, Fall River resident and Regional Director of the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection’s Southeast Regional Office, was thrilled about the project, remarking that it “embodies Baker and Polito’s vision for brownfields redevelopment as one of the most complex, yet promising and likely to succeed, projects in the region.”
