Tony hands the Presidential gavel to Steve Mattscheck, incoming President

Congratulations to BETA Sr. Vice President, Tony Garro, who recently completed his tenure as the President of the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association (NEAPWA)!

Tony was a recipient of the of the distinguished 2015 NEAPWA Contributor of the Year Award and has served on several committees as well as the Board of Directors for many years. Tony was introduced to the Chapter by his manager and mentor, the late James Coppola. As a Past President of the New England Chapter, Jimmy was truly dedicated to the public works industry and the Chapter. In 2011, Tony increased his participation, as well as BETA’s presence, in the Chapter. He continues to honor Jimmy’s legacy with an emphasis on mentoring the Chapter’s younger members and a passion for advocating for public works.

Tony accepted his election to the Presidency after nearly a year of pandemic-influenced changes to the way we do business. While several long-standing events had to be canceled with the best interest of the Chapter members in mind, there were some silver linings that he oversaw – including the formalization of the “New England Chapter Connects” virtual learning series. Tony always kept the Chapter members best interests at the forefront of all of his decisions and was an exceptional leader.

On December 4th, Tony passed the gavel onto the next President of the Chapter in the annual Board Meeting held in Portsmouth, NH. NEAPWA and BETA are fortunate to have Tony as part of their executive boards. His dedication, leadership, and professionalism are an asset to both organizations. We wish Tony all the best as he transitions to his new role as a member of the Past Presidents Committee!
