Acting as District Engineer, BETA provided Engineering and Planning Services for the Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill Redevelopment project. The Gilbert and Bennett Wire Mill Redevelopment was a multi-use conversion of an old manufacturing facility in Redding and Wilton. The project was being implemented by a Special Taxing District which acted for the Town of Redding in design, construction and eventual operations of the public portions of the project. BETA provided review and oversight for all engineering and project construction activities much as a Town Engineer would do.
The project was one of the first TOD efforts in Connecticut and included the development of a new Transportation Center and Rail Station over 300 residential units and substantial commercial space.
The project was recognized by Federal EPA as a brownfields restoration and the design maintained the historic character of Mill area. Working as District Engineer required understanding of reporting aspects of several federal funding agencies, DOT, DEP and others to maintain progress. Work also included reviewing project submissions of several architects, engineers and environmental consultants.
