Continuing a Legacy of Supporting APWA

September 15, 2020

For many years, BETA has hosted an annual brunch during PWX, the national APWA conference. The event is named for James Coppola, a Vice President at BETA who passed away unexpectedly on September 23, 2011. During his career, Jimmy was very active in APWA. He rose to the position of President of the New England Chapter in 2007, and received the prestigious Harry S. Swearingen Award in 2010. The award recognized one member of the organization nationally for their achievement and excellence in Chapter service.

While we fully understand and support the decision to move the conference to be virtual this year, we missed seeing our friends and colleagues in New Orleans, where the conference was scheduled to be held. In lieu of the 2020 event, a donation has been made in honor of Jimmy and BETA’s guests to the New England Chapter APWA’s PWX Scholarship Fund. The George R. Crombie Emerging Leaders Scholarship provides funding for a Young Professional and/or Emerging Leader to attend this important event.

We are proud to support APWA’s initiative, and to carry on Jimmy’s legacy of involvement with the New England Chapter.
