Celebrating 10 Years of Landscape Architecture Services at BETA

July 20, 2022

In addition to celebrating our 40th anniversary this year, we are also fortunate that 2022 marks our tenth year of providing in-house landscape architecture services to communities, agencies, and private clients throughout New England. In 2012, BETA Group, Inc. (BETA) acquired Gates, Leighton, & Associates (GLA) after decades of collaboration.

As a cohesive team, we bring a balanced approach of both creativity and buildability in designing vibrant and sustainable spaces for our clients. We partner with our clients to guide them through each project’s specific needs and tailor project solutions to fit aesthetics, budget, and goals. Our collaborative approach and graphic capabilities generate a wide base of public enthusiasm and support while energizing the entire design process.

Working alongside our engineers, our landscape architects have won several awards for their work in visioning, planning, design, and implementation since the acquisition. Notably, our design concepts for the reconstruction of North Square in the North End of Boston received a 2020 Project of the Year award by the American Public Works Association and 2020 Boston Preservation Alliance Award for Preservation Achievement. This project included improved ADA accommodations, traffic calming, and pedestrian accessibility and safety improvements. It maintained vehicular circulation patterns and on street parking and enhanced the Square’s cultural and historic value through treatments such as ornamental lighting, brick and granite surfaces at selected locations, bike racks, street trees, paver crosswalks, and other amenities.

We pride ourselves on the fact that our engineers and scientists work closely with our landscape architects and planners, a proximity that fosters an enhanced dialogue throughout a project, particularly in regard to various site constraints and remediation strategies. This synergy has been especially beneficial on BETA’s City Pier project in Fall River, MA. BETA has been involved in clean-up activities to help transform the vacant parcel into an accessible and enhanced site.  As these activities have resulted in the mitigation of pollutants, BETA’s landscape architects and planners have worked closely with the City to develop a vision for the multi-use marina.

BETA’s landscape architecture practice continues to flourish and grow as our multi-disciplinary teams work together to provide smart solutions that improve the communities where we live and work.
