BETA’s Anthony Garro Recognized as GIS Hero: Leading the Way in GIS & Asset Management

BETA is proud to announce that Anthony Garro, Senior Vice President, has been recognized as a GIS Hero by Esri, the global market leader in geographic information system (GIS) software, location intelligence, and mapping. With over 30 years of experience, Tony has solidified his position as an industry leader and innovator and has made exceptional contributions to the fields of GIS, asset management, and transportation planning.

As a Senior Vice President at BETA, Tony has successfully overseen numerous projects, including pavement management, utility infrastructure mapping, compliance assessments (ADA and MUTCD), and community master plans. His expertise in consensus building, public presentations, and implementation has been invaluable in achieving successful outcomes for various communities.

One of Tony’s remarkable achievements is the deployment of GIS-based management systems for more than 150 communities across New England. His contributions extend beyond mere implementation; he has developed custom asset management tools that seamlessly integrate with the ESRI GIS Suite, MS Access, and web-based platforms. This level of innovation has transformed how municipalities approach capital improvement planning and paved the way for efficient decision-making.

Tony credits his team of dedicated asset management professionals, including field staff and specialists, for enabling him to serve BETA’s clients effectively. Their collective efforts have been instrumental in the successful execution of projects, ensuring that clients receive the highest level of service and expertise.

Tony’s dedication to the advancement of the industry is evident through his active involvement in professional organizations. He is a highly regarded member of the New England Chapter of the American Public Works Association (APWA), having served as the Chapter President in 2021 and receiving the Member of the Year award in 2015. Tony is also an appointed member of several GIS boards in New England.
