MassDOT Complete Streets Funding Now Available

Massachusetts municipalities have until Friday, August 7, 2026 to apply for funding through the MassDOT Complete Streets Funding Program, one of several transportation funding opportunities available through MassDOT Grant Central.
The Complete Streets Funding Program helps communities create safer, more accessible transportation networks by providing funding for projects that improve safety and mobility for pedestrians, bicyclists, motorists, transit users, and people of all ages and abilities.
What Types of Projects Are Funded?
The program supports a variety of transportation improvements, including:
- Sidewalk construction and repairs
- ADA accessibility improvements
- Crosswalk enhancements
- Pedestrian refuge islands
- Bicycle accommodations
- Traffic calming measures
- Streetscape and multimodal safety improvements
Municipalities may receive up to $500,000 in construction funding and up to $38,000 in technical assistance funding through the program. While it is no longer a requirement to have an adopted Complete Streets Policy or approved Prioritization Plan to receive Complete Streets funding, communities that have them will receive extra consideration in construction funding evaluations.
BETA in Action
Communities across Massachusetts have used Complete Streets funding to transform local transportation networks and improve safety for all users. One recent example is the Town of Millis, which received an award through MassDOT’s previous Complete Streets Funding Program for improvements at the intersection of Main Street (Route 109) and Exchange Street.
The project includes a curb extension, raised pedestrian refuge island, new ADA-compliant pedestrian ramps, bicycle accommodations, and streetscape improvements designed to reduce pedestrian crossing distances, improve safety for all travel modes, and strengthen connections between downtown Millis, Town Hall, nearby schools, and other community destinations.
As municipalities prepare FY27 applications, BETA continues to partner with communities to deliver transportation improvements that enhance safety, accessibility, and quality of life throughout Massachusetts.
