BETA Group, Inc. Earns Two 2019 ACEC/CT Awards

January 30, 2019

Hartford, CT — BETA Group, Inc. (BETA) was honored twice at the 2019 American Council of Engineering Companies of Connecticut (ACEC/CT) Engineering Excellence Awards Dinner on January 28, 2019. The BETA team received a 2019 ACEC/CT Engineering Excellence Award for the Hartford Intermodal Triangle at Bushnell Park North and a 2019 Merit Award for Infrastructure Improvements to support Dunkin’ Donuts Park.

Bushnell Park, the oldest municipal park in the United States, encompasses 50 acres of green space and receives over one million visitors annually. Years of street expansion in the surrounding area left narrow, unaccommodating sidewalks and constricted right of way. The City of Hartford developed an exciting vision to forge a vibrant, forward-moving urban center and selected BETA as a leader in sustainable transportation improvement projects to create a complete street that balances automotive and pedestrian needs. BETA provided civil, transportation, and traffic engineering, along with environmental, landscape architecture, and construction inspection and administration services for the Bushnell Park North Project. This project has significantly improved the safety and livability of Downtown Hartford with enhanced transit and walkability and increased community activity. BETA’s work represents the most significant improvement to this park in the past 100 years.

Since opening its doors in 2017, Dunkin’ Donuts Park (home of the Hartford Yard Goats, an affiliate of the Colorado Rockies) has already been named Best Double-A Ballpark by Ballpark Digest. The park is supported by a busy network of surface and limited access roadways, sidewalks, and complex utilities. BETA designed and inspected the construction of this infrastructure, which has already played a major role in revitalizing the area north of downtown Hartford. This infrastructure is safely supporting the arrival and dismissal of baseball fans to the ballpark with the second highest minor league attendance of the 2018 season with 47 sold out games.

BETA is proud of our contributions to the City of Hartford and the State of Connecticut. We remain committed to improving the communities in which we live and work together.
