Summer Intern Spotlight

August 28, 2018

Summer isn’t the only thing we are sad to see go! Our interns have played a major role in our success this summer. We sat down with three interns who worked with the transportation group in BETA’s Lincoln office to learn about their experience.

Majoring in Civil Engineering at the University of Maine, Allison Gilmore’s favorite class is Open Channel Hydraulics. The project she most enjoyed working on this summer was Kennedy Plaza Improvements in Providence, RI. BETA Engineer Frank Marinaccio stated, “Alli has been an instrumental part of developing some traffic features of the Greater Kennedy Plaza Improvement project. She has demonstrated her capacity to advance complex concepts through her bright outlook.”

Ben Ramos is a student at the University of Rhode Island where he studies Civil Engineering. During his time with BETA, Ben became skilled using AutoCAD and enjoyed working in an environment where people were willing to take a moment to share their experience. “Ben has a great attitude and is eager to learn. He continually applies new skills to the projects he is working on,” Frank shared.

Since starting at BETA, Ben Gershman has learned how to use AutoCAD and ArcMap with no prior experience, while also learning the basic fundamentals to civil engineering design. He enjoyed the ability to meet new people whose combined experience in different fields of engineering provided him with an opportunity to grow and develop as an engineer. Ben’s favorite college class thus far has been Statistics and Dynamics at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth.

Senior Project Manager Nicole Iannuzzi sincerely thanks the interns for their efforts this summer. “We hope the experience they gained working on high-profile projects provides each of them with that important initial stepping stone leading toward a successful engineering career. Let’s wish them all well as they continue their academic endeavors and perhaps we’ll see them all again in the very near future.”
