Paving the Way on International Women in Engineering Day

In celebration of International Women in Engineering Day, we sat down with one of our transportation staff engineers, Addie, to learn more about her efforts to transform sidewalks across the capital city of Providence, Rhode Island. Through her leadership on this major ADA compliance project, Addie is helping to improve accessibility for thousands of residents while also navigating a career in a traditionally male-dominated field. We wanted to hear more about the challenges and triumphs of the project – and her personal journey as a woman in engineering.
City Pier Project Wins Brownfields Remediation Project of the Year

The City Pier redevelopment project in Fall River has been recognized as Brownfields Remediation Project of the Year, and BETA is honored to have played a key role in this achievement. The project transformed a long-neglected industrial site into a safe, revitalized waterfront destination. By addressing legacy contamination and incorporating sustainable design practices, our team helped pave the way for future development and community use. This award celebrates the power of collaborative engineering in turning environmental challenges into opportunities for renewal and growth.

Welcome to the Team!

Hannah Davis rejoins the BETA team as a staff scientist in our environmental group. Hannah recently graduated from UMass Amherst with her master’s degree, but she already has previous engineering experience, including her internship with BETA’s environmental group, and MassDER, which supervised her honors thesis on hydrogeologic restoration of golf courses to wetlands.

Justin Perez joins the team as a resident observer in our construction group. Based in our Hartford office, Justin brings useful construction materials testing experience to BETA, including conducting on-site testing of construction materials, such as soil density, concrete, asphalt, and masonry testing, and preparing detailed reports documenting his findings.
