Pump Stations Hazardous Building Materials Mitigation

Framingham, Massachusetts

BETA has completed design and construction oversight for the rehabilitation of several water pump stations in the City of Framingham. As part of these projects, BETA and their subcontractor, Smith & Wessel, have provided hazardous building materials assessment and abatement/remediation oversight. BETA also prepared specification sections and plans for the bidding of the abatement work. At several of these pump stations, BETA also provided Licensed Site Professional services to respond to identified contaminants in soil. Below are details of each pump station project:

  • Goodnow Lane: Identified asbestos in several building materials and lead-based paint throughout the pump station. Also identified polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in caulking at the Site. Prepared specifications and oversaw the abatement of the asbestos materials. Oversaw the remediation of the PCB-containing caulking as PCB Bulk Waste, including removal of several inches of brick substrate that had become impacted by the caulking.
  • Grove Street: Identified asbestos in several building materials and lead-based paint throughout the pump station. Prepared specifications and oversaw the abatement of these materials.
  • Speen Street: Identified asbestos in several building materials and lead-based paint throughout the pump station. Also, prepared a Permanent Solution for filing with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection due to the presence of arsenic in soil at the Site.
  • Pleasant Street: Identified asbestos in several building materials and lead-based paint throughout the pump station. Prepared specifications and oversaw the abatement of these materials.
