Traffic Sign Inventory & Capital Improvement Program

BETA was retained by the City of Portsmouth to conduct a City-wide Traffic Sign Inventory and Capital Improvement Program in 2017. The goal of the project was to put the City in compliance with MUTCD requirements and develop a workflow for the City to record maintenance and replacement activities.

Data collected for this project was processed using a custom GIS-based system developed by BETA. The user-friendly system is built around two widely used programs – MS Access and ArcView (ESRI) – allowing for user flexibility and easy integration of other related assets such as pavement and curb ramps.

BETA has designed an MUTCD Sign Inventory Program that puts communities in compliance with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) mandate requiring the implementation of such an inventory. As part of this project, BETA provided comprehensive training and project oversight from start to finish, ensuring high quality data and compliance.
