BETA Projects Honored with ACEC-RI Awards

BETA Group, Inc. (BETA) is thrilled to announce that two of our projects received recognition at this year’s American Council of Engineering Companies of Rhode Island (ACEC-RI) Annual Meeting on June 22. The Town of Bristol, Rhode Island’s Tanyard Brook Watershed Study and Design project was honored with the prestigious first place Project of the Year Award and the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT)’s I-95 over Toll Gate Road and Centerville Road Bridges Superstructure Replacement project in Warwick, RI was awarded third place.

BETA has been collaborating with the Town of Bristol, RI on stormwater improvements for decades. The Tanyard Brook residential area greatly suffered from frequent flooding following heavy rain events. After evaluating various alternatives, BETA proposed a multi-phased approach including the replacement of the existing culvert and the installation of new drain manholes and catch basins.

BETA integrated green infrastructure design by constructing an open channel culvert section through a wetland. This innovative approach allows the new culvert to overflow into the adjacent wetland area during larger rain events or high tide, mitigating potential surcharges and flooding in the upstream neighborhoods. Once rainfall subsides, the stormwater gradually flows back into the culvert as capacity becomes available.

We are committed to continuing our partnership with the Town as Phase 3 of the project is set to commence this winter.

BETA served as the design engineer to general contractor MIG Corporation for the I-95 over Toll Gate Road and Centerville Road Bridges Superstructure Replacement design-build project. Commissioned by RIDOT, six bridge superstructures carrying I-95 over local roads in Warwick, RI were replaced. Read more about this project here.
