BETA Awarded Contract to Support Statewide ADA Compliance Planning for CTDOT

An ADA-compliant ramp in Hartford, CT

Communities across Connecticut are taking important steps to improve accessibility in public spaces, and BETA is proud to support that effort through a new partnership with the Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT).

BETA, assisted by team member firms SLR Consulting and VN Engineers, will help develop and implement a statewide ADA Municipal Program designed to assist municipalities in meeting ADA Title II requirements. The initiative will include accessibility assessments, GIS-based inventories of pedestrian infrastructure, and the development of ADA Self-Evaluation and Transition Plans that identify barriers, prioritize improvements, and establish implementation strategies. By combining planning, engineering, GIS, and public engagement expertise, BETA’s team will help communities create safer, more accessible, and better-connected public spaces for residents and visitors of all abilities.

Celebrating ACEC-RI Engineering Excellence Awards

Nicole Iannuzzi and Joe Simmons accepting ACEC/RI Engineering Excellence Award

BETA is proud to celebrate two ACEC-RI Engineering Excellence Award-winning projects that are helping Rhode Island communities thrive. The Wickford Waterfront Improvements project earned first place in the Under $10 Million Category, while the Warwick City Hall Plaza project received third place recognition.

Completed for the Town of North Kingstown, the Wickford Waterfront Improvements project enhances accessibility, safety, and coastal resilience along the historic waterfront through upgraded pedestrian connections, stormwater infrastructure, and sustainable design solutions. The Warwick City Hall Plaza project transforms an underutilized municipal site into a vibrant year-round civic destination featuring a boutique skating rink, event space, and improvements that support downtown revitalization. BETA is honored to receive this recognition and congratulates both the Town of North Kingstown and the City of Warwick on these achievements. We are proud to partner with communities where we live and work to deliver projects that enhance quality of life, support economic vitality, and strengthen resilience for generations to come.

BETA’s Boston team has a new home! On June 1, the firm relocated to a larger office at 100 Franklin Street in downtown Boston. The move reflects BETA’s continued growth in the region and provides additional space to support a growing staff, foster collaboration, and serve our clients across Greater Boston.

Conveniently located near public transportation and major roadway networks, the new office positions BETA to continue delivering responsive, high-quality services to municipalities, state agencies, and regional partners throughout the area.

Celebrating International Women in Engineering Day

Headshots of two engineers highlighted during INWED 2026

Every June, engineers around the world celebrate International Women in Engineering Day (INWED), an annual observance that recognizes the achievements and contributions of women in the engineering profession. This year’s theme, Engineering Intelligence, highlights the creativity, adaptability, and problem-solving skills engineers bring to their work every day.

At BETA, we’re proud to celebrate the talented women engineers whose expertise, leadership, and dedication help improve the communities where we live and work. In celebration of INWED, we spoke with two BETA engineers about their career journeys, lessons learned, and advice for the next generation of women entering the field.

Free Technical Assistance Funding for SNEP Communities

Storm drain

Communities across Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts have an exciting opportunity to access free technical assistance through the Southeast New England Program (SNEP) Network! The program provides hands-on support to help municipalities, Tribes, and nonprofit watershed organizations advance projects from concept to implementation-ready planning.

Eligible projects may include stormwater management and ecological restoration planning, hazard mitigation and preparedness initiatives, and funding and financing strategies. While this is not a grant program, the technical assistance is designed to help communities build project momentum, strengthen local capacity, and position projects for future implementation funding. If your community is considering a water resource, resilience, or restoration initiative, be sure to apply by July 15.
