Across New England, several funding programs are now open that support communities in enhancing infrastructure, public spaces, and mobility. Below are a few current opportunities:

Safe Routes to School “Signs and Lines”
Application period: September 3 – October 3, 2025

The program offers design services and up to $10,000 in construction funding to Massachusetts municipalities for small-scale infrastructure projects near schools. The goal is to reduce barriers for students walking, biking, or using mobility devices. Learn more here.

CT DEEP Urban Green and Community Gardens Program|
Application due: November 3, 2025

This program provides funding to create or enhance urban green spaces for public use and education. Eligible projects include community gardens or reclaiming open space for public enjoyment. Learn more here.

RIDEM Outdoor Recreation Grants
Application due: November 18, 2025

Supports municipalities and recognized Native American tribes with acquisition, development, or renovation of outdoor recreation facilities. Learn more here.

MassDOT LEAP Program
Priority deadline is September 30, 2025

The Local Early and Actionable Planning (LEAP) Program helps municipalities, especially rural and underserved communities, advance infrastructure projects through planning and early-stage design support. Grants range from $25,000–$100,000, with $1 million available statewide. Learn more here.

Just Announced!
RIIB Community Project Assistance Fund
Rolling Application

This new fund provides up to $50,000 in technical assistance and infrastructure funding to Rhode Island municipalities to improve climate resilience. Eligible projects include stormwater management, coastal and inland flooding mitigation, and upgrades to critical public infrastructure. Learn more here.
