Urban Corridor Feasibility & Transportation Improvements

Hartford, Connecticut

BETA was engaged by the City of Hartford and a Major Insurance Company to develop transportation analysis and conceptual improvements for several corridors in the City.

Occurring simultaneously were the Intermodal Triangle project; Yard Goats Stadium project; and Farmington, Asylum and Broad Streets Analysis which required an overall analysis of potential traffic patterns in the Hartford Downtown and corporate centers.

BETA traffic engineers worked with CTDOT staff to develop comprehensive area-wide analyses of the project corridors and likely mitigation proposals. Special aspects of these assignments involved:

  • Redistribution of traffic patterns due to Flower Street closure for CTFASTRAK project
  • Analysis of potential impacts for a new Baseball Stadium to be located in the City
  • Assessment of road diet proposals implementing the IQUILT plan for pedestrian connection in the Downtown and specifically the Bushnell Park North project
  • Evaluation of Traffic Operations involving potential bike-ped improvements in the Sigourney Street area

To complete this work a detailed Synchro and SimTraffic model was completed for these project areas. Potential operational issues were identified and adjustments to initial concepts implemented.BETA is currently providing construction administration services and monitoring ongoing traffic performance.
